§ 5-162. Powers and duties of department of community development.

  • (a)

    The department of community development, as established by Order No. 19,434, passed by the mayor and city council in regular session on May 22, 1973, shall have the following powers, duties and responsibilities:

    (1)

    To identify all blighted areas and deteriorated structures and dwelling units, as contemplated under section 5-161, within the boundaries of the city.

    (2)

    To investigate all complaints as to the existence of any such blighted area or deteriorated structures or dwelling units within the city as part of its code enforcement duties.

    (3)

    To coordinate with the police department and fire department of the city a plan for the comprehensive evaluation of any area or deteriorated structures or dwelling units found to exist within the boundaries of the city.

    (b)

    Nothing contained in this section shall in any way affect the code enforcement responsibilities of any department of the mayor and city council.
